The honest version
What Disney Wish is actually like
The Wish was the first of the Triton-class ships and it shows: everything about it is built for spectacle. The three-storey atrium is the most photographed space in the fleet, the dining rooms are theatre rather than restaurants, and the AquaMouse loops out over the side of the ship.
What makes it our most-recommended first cruise is not the newness though — it is the length. Most Wish sailings are three, four or five nights out of Port Canaveral, so you can test whether your family loves Disney at sea without booking a fortnight off work. Pair it with a few days at Walt Disney World and you have a very complete first trip.
The trade-off is that short sailings are busy sailings. Everyone is trying to do everything in three days, so the popular bookable extras — the adult restaurants, the spa, the character breakfasts — go early. This is a ship where booking windows genuinely matter.
Book it if
- A first Disney cruise you can fit around school and work
- Children roughly 4–12
- Pairing with a Walt Disney World stay
Look elsewhere if
- Anyone who wants port days — these are mostly sea-and-island sailings
- Teenagers, who tend to prefer Destiny
- Travellers looking for value per night
