Disney Adventure

The Adventure is the outlier. At around 6,000 guests it is half again as large as anything else Disney sails, it never really goes anywhere — most itineraries are three or four nights round-trip from Singapore with few or no port calls — and it is organised into seven themed districts rather than the usual decks and lounges.

Judged as a cruise, that sounds like a criticism. Judged as what it actually is — a resort that happens to float, aimed at the enormous Southeast Asian family market — it works. There is more to do on board than you can fit into four nights, and the theming density is closer to a theme park than a ship.

For a UK family it only makes sense as part of a bigger trip. Bolted onto a Singapore stopover on the way to or from Australia it is a genuinely brilliant few days. Flown to on its own, it is a very long way to go for four nights.
